History & Tradition

Since 1889, the Aberdeen Fire Department has proudly served the citizens of Aberdeen and the surrounding communities of Harford County, Maryland.

What began as a volunteer fire company has grown into a modern combination fire department providing fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, public education, and community risk reduction. Throughout our history, we have continually evolved to meet the changing needs of our community while remaining grounded in the traditions and values that have defined our organization for more than a century.

The Aberdeen Fire Department has a proud history of innovation and leadership. In 2002, we became the first department in Harford County to implement a career Emergency Medical Services staffing model. In 2024, we again made history by becoming the first department in Harford County to introduce career firefighter staffing, strengthening our ability to provide reliable emergency response while preserving our volunteer tradition.

Today, our organization remains committed to honoring the legacy of those who came before us while embracing the opportunities and challenges of the future.

Our Core Values

We are committed to serving our community with professionalism, compassion, and dependability. Dedication means answering the call whenever needed and placing the needs of others before our own.

We hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards. We act honestly, responsibly, and transparently in everything we do, earning the trust of our members, our community, and our partners.

We take pride in our department, our profession, and our community. We honor our history through excellence in service, commitment to quality, and respect for the traditions that define us.

Service often requires personal sacrifice. We willingly dedicate our time, energy, and talents to protect others and support one another. We recognize that our strength comes from the commitment of our members and their families.

For generations, the Aberdeen Fire Department has been built upon a foundation of service, honor, and community involvement. We respect our past, preserve our heritage, and work to ensure future generations inherit an organization that is stronger than the one entrusted to us.

As a combination department, our success depends on both career and volunteer members working together toward a common mission. We remain committed to fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, respect, and service.

Whether responding to emergencies, teaching fire safety in our schools, supporting community events, or mentoring the next generation of firefighters and EMS providers, our members are dedicated to making Aberdeen a safer and stronger community.
