The Aberdeen Fire Department reminds all residents that open burning is prohibited throughout Harford County from June 1 through August 31 each year due to increased wildfire risk caused by hot, dry weather.

These seasonal restrictions help protect homes, businesses, forests, and emergency responders by reducing the chance of preventable outdoor fires.

What Is Prohibited?

During the burn ban, open burning is not permitted anywhere in Harford County. This includes burning:

• Brush and yard debris
• Leaves and grass clippings
• Tree limbs
• Household waste
• Other outdoor debris
• Exceptions to the Burn Ban

Certain activities are still permitted during the seasonal burn ban, including:

• Agricultural operations
• Recreational fires, such as campfires
• Cooking food using grills, smokers, or similar cooking devices

Even when these activities are allowed, residents should always use caution, keep fires attended, and have a way to extinguish them quickly.

Violations Carry Serious Penalties

Open burning during the prohibited period is a violation of Harford County Code 109.

Individuals found in violation may face:

• Fines of up to $1,000 per day, per violation
• Up to six (6) months imprisonment
• Or both

Each day a violation continues is considered a separate offense.

Need to Dispose of Yard Waste?

Instead of burning, residents are encouraged to use one of Harford County’s Yard Trim Drop-Off Sites for brush, leaves, and other yard debris.

Using approved disposal locations helps reduce wildfire risk while keeping neighborhoods clean and safe.
